Before we get into Guatemala, I've been asking you all for prayers with everyone's health. We're finally at the point where the chaos is quieting down and life is beginning to slip into what should be normal life. The guy who had to stay behind for medical reasons is joining us this week!! But, unfortunately, the girl who had to stay behind for her medical reasons is no longer coming on the race with us. Everyone is feeling her absence, but grateful for the time we got with her and eager to see the plan we trust God has had from the beginning.
After spending the night at the airport we arrived in Guatemala Wednesday afternoon! We spent the day settling in and having a meeting about the expectations for life on base.
Thursday was orientation day where we finally got a better idea of what life in general is like in Guatemala, and who each specific team will be serving with. Even with three different hosts and three teams to assign, God was guiding these small decisions and everyone is without a doubt serving where they are meant to.
Friday was our first day of ministry. Our squad is staying at the AIM base here is Guatemala, but each team is serving with a different host. My team is with Chaco, whose life is a beautiful testament of living desiring to walk with God. We spent the morning doing orientation and then spending time with God on prayer mountain. The rest of the day was spent celebrating Greta on her birthday! Including two separate cakes and many different games.
Yesterday was my team's day off, so we explored Antigua; the local touristy town. We took the chicken bus (local transportation) for the first time, and I got the full experience on those old school buses with even becoming the pillow for one of the strangers I was squished against as we loaded more people on without anyone getting off. Honestly, not the worst experience. What wasn't as fun was having to take a 5 minute walk backtracking along the highway because they drove past our stop.
The view is breathtaking, and by the end of our two months here I hope to join the club of people who have seen one of the volcanos erupt (we have 3 within view) We get one off day a week, each team with a different day. And one Sabbath day as a squad. I'm looking forward to ministry truly starting and on the off days getting to explore the area!
Thank you for your prayers and please continue to be praying for the health and safety of everyone on the World Race
