There has been so much chaos with one thing happening after another. And through it all I have been in awe of God because each emergency room visit brought collective prayer from the squad. The stress and worry was there, but there is so much beauty in seeing that people's first response to troubles is to run to God.

For those of you who don't know, for years I've had chronic migraines, and the list of things that would effect me is full of uncontrollable things like the weather or lighting. Medicine lessened the frequency and intensity of them, but migraines still effected schoolwork, sports, and even what service I'd go to at church.

In Guatemala I've gotten a migraine every day, and there's so many little things in our environment that trigger them, each day was a defensive game of how long can I last before it hurts to move.

Wednesday morning we were at the house of prayer. During our prayer and worship set after the teaching I was sitting there covering my face with my hands as my eyes were squeezed shut to try and block out the light in the room because each light source was only intensifying the pain. We will be at the house of prayer at least once a week, so I was desperately asking God how I was supposed to get through two months of this, especially when ministry is only going to get more involved. God met me where I was at.

It was one of those experiences words can't ever truly explain, but I'm going to do my best

It was like I could see myself sitting, curled up pathetically on the floor, trying to control and be ok with the pain. But then I looked up and saw Jesus standing with His hand outsretched, inviting me to leave my strength and come walk with Him, and let Him lead me. When I looked beyond Him I couldn't see what He was walking towards that He'd paused to wait for me in, but it was one of those things where I know it's the future He has, and it was goodness.

I knew I wanted to go with Him, and once I'd had that thought/decision, the whisper in my mind got louder and louder to open my eyes, that it's ok to look around at the light in the room. So I did, and there was no hint of my migraine at all. For the first time I got to look around and enjoy the simple beauty of the room. Outside I got to look up at the sky and at the surrounding mountains without having to be careful not to look to long and mess with my head. And that afternoon, I got to enjoy the rain without having to bear the pressure I'd feel in my head with that kind of weather.

Feeling like I might get a migraine throughout my day hasn't gone away, but each time now I give it completely to God. I haven't needed my medicine for a couple days now, and no headache has lasted. Every day, really every hour, is a surrender of every thought, beyond just the worries of getting a migraine. I can't wait to continue to walk every day seeing what God has in store!
